There is a Learning Resource Centre at each of our main centres.

The LRC’s opening hours are subject to change during times of staff shortage.

Joining
 

Anyone who is currently enrolled on a course at JPC can use the College Learning Resources Centres. You need to bring your Student Learning Card or another form of ID each time you want to borrow anything or to use the computers. All JPC staff members are also entitled to use the Learning Centres.

  • When you first want to use the library just ask at the library desk and we will activate your library card.
  • Your borrowing rights last for the duration of the academic year

Borrowing

  • You can borrow up to 6 resources at a time.
  • Normal loan items can be borrowed for 2 weeks.
  • Short loan items can be borrowed for 1 week. 


Renewing

Items can be renewed in person or by phone, provided that they are not needed by another user.


Reservations

If an item is on loan you can reserve it and have it sent to the Learning Resource Centre that is most convenient for you.
You can do it by asking a member of the Learning Resources staff or by yourself via your account on the Heritage Online Catalogue.
Please note if you reserve it yourself on the Heritage Online Catalogue it will be reserved at the site at which it is located unless you inform the Learning Resources staff otherwise.


Charges

We do not operate a fining system. However, if resources are not returned, or returned damaged, you may be invoiced for the cost of replacement.  
 

How to reserve a book on the Heritage catalogue


You can only reserve a book to receive the next copy available, if all of the copies are shown as ‘On Loan’.
 

  1. Click on the ‘Login’ icon (a yellow key) at the top of the screen to login to your library account.
  2. Type in the number on your library card into the box. This will start with a ‘B’, e.g. B13117.
  3. Click the ‘Login’ button.
  4. You will go into the ‘Search’ screen, where you can retrieve the book you require.
  5. If all of the copies are ‘On Loan’, click on the book title. You will see the detailed book record.
  6. Click on a grey button marked ‘Reserve’ on the right hand side.
  7. You should then get a message saying that the reservation is accepted.
  8. Click on the ‘Continue’ button to proceed.’
